About Dr. Fernandes

Dr. Fernandes is a general surgeon in Chatham, Ontario. She completed her medical school and general surgery residency at McMaster University in Hamilton, and her fellowship in minimally invasive surgery and advanced endoscopy at Dalhousie University in Halifax. She has a Masters of Public Health from Harvard University in Boston where she focused her studies on perioperative quality improvement methodologies.   She strives to provide her patients with safe, high quality and compassionate care.

Dr. Fernandes provides surgical care for a wide range of medical issues including:

- Cancers of the skin, breast, and colon

- Hernias of the groin and abdomen

- Hiatus hernias and achalasia surgery

- Inflammation and/or bleeding of the esophagus, stomach, gallbladder, small bowel, appendix, colon, rectum and anus

- Carpal tunnel syndrome

- Emergencies such as appendicitis, cholecystitis, diverticulitis, bowel obstructions and perforations, bleeding and trauma

She has specialized training to perform surgeries using laparoscopic and endoscopic techniques, which allows her to perform procedures in minimally-invasive ways --- reducing your hospital length of stay and post-operative pain. She is trained in the endoscopic evaluation and management of problems of the esophagus, stomach, biliary system, small bowel and colon using gastroscopy, ERCP, colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy.
